Twinkle Park in Costa Mesa (970 Arlington, Costa Mesa, CA 92626) is a great park with a beautiful waterfall and lake.

On the other side of the park is a large play ground for kids to enjoy.

We met up with our friends there for a craft playdate. It was a great place to do arts & crafts because there is plenty of shade and tables. After we were done with the crafts, the kids got to run around the play ground.
For this fun craft, we gathered some flowers and leafs from our yards. Our friend Jillian bought wax papers, hammers, rocks, ribbons, scissors, a hole puncher, and card stock papers,
To begin, we had the kids placed flowers and leafs all over the card stock papers.

Then place a piece of wax paper over the flowers and hammer away.

We found that it was actually easier to do it with large rock. When we removed the wax paper, this was what we were left with.

Using my hands, I picked out all of the smashed flowers and leafs.

I cut the paper into 8 pieces, used a hole puncher to make holes for the ribbons, tied the ribbons and this was the final result.

DD was very happy with how well her craft project turned out.

When we got home DD placed a bookmark she made on my nightstand, one on her daddy's nightstand and even one in baby G's bedroom for him. I thought that was very sweet of her to do that.
The craft itself was a lot of fun and really easy for kids of all ages to do. These bookmarks would make cute little gifts for the grandparents and teachers as well. DD had a lot of fun creating her own bookmarks and she loved the playground at Twinkle Park too. On the day we went, it was somewhat packed with kids and because the playground is so large, it is rather difficult to keep an eye on the little ones. However, I imagine that once summer is over and the kids are back in school, the park will be less crowded so that it will be easier to keep an eye on your child at all times.

who knew smashing flower and leaves could be so fun and productive
That looks like great fun! Love the idea of doing arts and crafts somewhere other than home (no glue worries lol)
I'm always looking for fun kid-craft ideas, and when the weather gets warmer, I'm going to have to try this one out!
