Journal Craft

On a recent craft night, we made some journals for ourselves (and the kids). This project is great with older kids, but fun for just us moms as well.

To begin, start out with a composition book. I got some in the clearance section at Target for $0.20 each .
You want to take two piece of 10x12 scrapbooking paper and glue them together with 1" overlap. Your paper should then be wide enough to cover the front and the back of the composition book.

Use spray adhesive on the scrapbooking paper and cover the composition journal with it. Then fold the excess papers in and glue them down.

Next, take another piece of scrapbooking paper and glue it to the inside of the journal cover (do the same for both the inside of the front and back covers). This will cover up the excess paper you glued down earlier.

You can then decorate it with stamps, rhinestones or ribbons. Note: if you want to tie a ribbon to the journal like I did, be sure to tie the ribbon before you glue the inside with the exact sheet of scrapbook paper. This will ensure that the ribbon stay put.

This is what the front of my journals look like.
The inside of the journal. I also stamped the inside cover.
The back of the journals.
I made 3 journals: one for myself as a Bible journal, and one for each kid. I thought it would be a good idea to record down the funny things they said, the accomplishments they made and major milestones they have met. When they have kids of their own, I will be giving them the journals I kept for them as gifts.

Happy crafting!
