July is National Park and Recreation Month!

July is National Park and Recreation Month! The NRPA 2012 theme of “Get Wild” encourages families to play outside and enjoy all of the benefits that local parks have to offer. My family loves going to the parks, as such, we would like to encourage everyone else to check out and enjoy your local parks too!

Although it does get pretty hot during the summer months in Southern California, we have been going to the parks either in the early mornings or late afternoons. If we plan on spending most of the day at the park, then we would pick a park with plenty of shades and pack enough food and drinks for everyone. We are very blessed to live in an area surrounded by lots of parks. Within 30 miles of our home, there are at least a dozen parks we visit regularly. There are a few parks so different from others that going there is especially exciting for my kids.

My kids love going parks because there are so many fun activities for them to do. They get to hang out with their friends and have fun at the playground too. For myself and my mommy friends, we love taking the kids to the park because it is a great way to get the kids to use up all of their energy before nap time, it's nice to spend time with other moms and catch up while the kids are kept busy by the swings, slides, and sandboxes, and one of the best reasons for taking the kids to the park is that it is free. With everything costing so much money, it's wonderful to do fun activities with my kids without having have to spend a ton of money.

Here's just a few photos of the my kids enjoying the park with their friends.

Since DD is on summer break right now, I like to keep my kids busy everyday by doing different outdoor activities. To keep my kids entertained, we visit different parks so they never get bored by going to the same one. Furthermore, I have always try to teach my kids the importance of respecting mother nature and appreciating everything she has to offer. By going to the parks, they get to be closer to mother nature. They get to soak up the sun, run around on the green grass, climb trees, pick leaves and listens to birds chirp.  It's really a win-win for everyone. In addition to the playground equipments, many parks offers other services for local families too. By our house, a couple of parks offer movie nights once a week while others offers summer concerts. These free events are great because it's something that even the parents could enjoy.

Let's all take a stand against the increasing obesity epidemic by encouraging our kids to play outside and participate in recreation activities! Don't let our kids waste the summer away by hanging out at home and watch TV all day long!

Please check out the NRPA website for a calendar of local events happening across the country. You can take the "Get Wild" pledge and get information on the "Get Wild" Geocaching contest on the website as well. Be sure to check out the NRPA facebook for detailed information.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of National Recreation and Park Association and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
