The series “JEM and The Holograms” ran from 1985-’88 in first-run syndication and still boasts a loyal and vocal fan base. It is frequently credited with influencing fashion in the late 1980s and beyond, and launching the careers of female pop-rock stars and music groups.  The series follows Jerrica Benton, whose discovery of Synergy, a powerful computer companion, allows her to transform from co-owner of Starlight Music into rock star Jem.  Teaming with her sister and best friends who form The Holograms, Jem sets out to make their musical dreams come true, even as she battles against the ruthless Eric Raymond and his musical protégés.

Our Review:
I remember watching Jem and The Holograms when I first came to the US as a teenage. I did not speak any English at the time, and I was absolutely fascinated by this cartoon series. By the time I was watching it on TV, the series was already over and I was watching the reruns. As I picked up more English, I was able to understand more of the dialogues in each episode. It definitely has been very interesting to watch the shows again and figuring out the plot I understood and the ones I just did not get because of the language barrier. Jem and The Holograms is a series about Jem, who is actually Jerrica, and her rock band the Holograms. With the help of her band, she is able to provide the income to support a foster program for girls set up by her late mother. The episodes typically revolves around Jerrica's effort in trying to keep her other identity secret and protecting Synergy.  The Holograms has two rival bands: The Misfits and The Stingers. If you watched this as a kid, you will enjoy watching this again with your own kids. The complete series has all 65 original episodes. I still can't get over the 80's hair, makeup and fashion that are clearly visible in this series. Even my husband remember watching this series as a kid and commented that people at his work still make references to it all the time. He said that every time someone says, "Outrageous," someone else would say, "Is it TRULY, TRULY, TRULY OUTRAGEOUS?"

I saw that they are starting to show this on TV again. How cool! I guess I watched this when my sisters were little (watching it with them of course). Would love for my niece to see it. It's so funny to me, and exciting, that they are bringing back good cartoons we grew up with and making them available for our kids.

I remember singing and dancing in my living room in my FAVORITE purple dress up skirt and pretending to be Jem as a little girl! This is so awesome! I may have to get it just for nostalgia's sake!
