Aerobie Skylighter Disc Review and -Rafflecopter- Giveaway -- ENDED

My kids love to try fun new products that we can all do together, so you can imagine my kids’ excitement when we got the Aerobie Skylighter flying disc to review. Before I got a chance to even take the disc out of its packaging, my oldest daughter read every detail on it to see what we could do with it. She was so excited that it could light up and be used at night time, so much so that every night before we opened it up, she would beg to go to the park the minute it got dark. When my husband finally discovered this interesting flying disc, he couldn’t resist opening it up and playing with it. We were at a friend’s house leaving and he saw it in the car, opened it up and started throwing it around with our friends. Everyone thought it was so cool. My husband loved that it was so easy to throw and catch. The rubber edge made it easier for everyone to grab and hold on to. He was in awe of the fact that it didn’t wobble like a Frisbee does and of course the L.E.D lighting was just a bonus.
A few nights later we decided to take the Aerobie Skylighter to the park and see just how far we could throw this thing. My younger kids (ages 2 and 5), could throw it as far as you would expect a 2 and 5 year-old to throw a flying disc. My 2 year old threw it straight into the grass, while my 5 year old got it to go a few yards. I was truly shocked at how far my 9 year old could throw it. She could throw it just as far as my husband and I could throw it, without any extra effort. She was so jazzed. We took turns throwing it to one another and loved that even though it was so dark outside, we could still see the Aerobie Skylighter. It looked like a mini-UFO flying through the sky.

I must mention the packaging states the Aerobie Skylighter is for ages 10 and up and not suitable for children ages 36 months or younger due to some small parts where the L.E.D. lighting is attached to the disc. None of my kids fall into either of these categories, but how do you keep a product like this away from them? I know my 9 year old would be just as capable as any 10 year old. My 5 year old just wanted to try it and I didn’t see any harm in her trying. I guess the biggest issues with having children younger than the recommended ages playing with the disc is the safety of others. Surely my 5 year old wouldn’t know how to aim the disc at the right person and she could possibly hit a by-stander. Fortunately for her, we were at a large park with no one else around, otherwise the only way I would let her play with it is if she had enough clearance to make sure no one else would get hurt. I let my 2 year old play with it because he’s past the age of putting things in his mouth and I didn’t see any harm in letting him try.

All in all, if you’re looking to purchase a flying disc I would highly recommend the Aerobie Skylighter over any standard flying disc. The L.E.D. lighting and wobble-free, long-lasting flights of the Aerobie Skylighter make this disc super fun to play with.

Many thanks to Aerobie. The company has generously offered 1  Skylighter Disc as a giveaway prize to one of Sugar Pop Ribbons' lucky readers. This giveaway ends on Oct 27, 2011.
