CARS 2 races into theatres everywhere in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D on June 24th!
Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the stunning rookie field spy Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. The fast-paced fun includes a colorful new all-car cast, complete with menacing villains and international racing competitors.
John Lasseter returns to the driver’s seat to direct this follow-up to his 2006 Golden Globe®-winning “Cars.” “Cars 2” is co-directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film “Ratatouille,” and produced by visual effects industry veteran Denise Ream (associate producer, “Up”; visual effects executive producer, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”). The film hits the track on June 24, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.
We were lucky enough to have gotten invited to a special VIP showing of Cars 2 before it is released to the public. I took DD to see the movie and we thought it was quite good. Before we saw Cars 2, we got a sneak preview of The Lion King in 3D and it looked amazing. It got us very excited about watching when it comes out in a few months. We also got to see a short Toy Story animation about Barbie and Ken going on a Hawaiian vacation at Bonnie's house. That was really fun as well. I won't spoil the plot by giving you the details, but I will tell you that there are definitely a few laugh aloud moments for me. Now, on to Cars 2. The story line focus on Mater and his friendship with Lightning McQueen. In the animation, Mater becomes an "accidental" spy and he turns out to be surprising good at it. In the mean time, Lightning McQueen is racing in the World Grand Prix. The story lines takes you through the race tracks in Japan, Italy and England. I thought that the details of cultural background as well as the snap shots of the countries were amazing. I loved the cute little Japanese cars (with pink bows on top) and the fact that they could buy tires from the vending machine there. The animation also had a short clip of Japanese kabuki theater, which I thought I was really cool. When the story line took place in England, I especially like the Queen car. I mean, how can you not love a car with a giant crown on top, lol. Overall, I really like the film (DD did too). I especially enjoyed Michael Caine's voice acting. There were many laugh aloud moments for me in the film. For example, I love the part where Mater ate some wasabi (Japanese horseradish) thinking it was ice cream -- the same thing happened to my grandfather, except he thought it was an avocado dip and he ate a whole mouth full, lol.
This fun animation did a great job keeping both the adults and kids entertained. I would recommend taking your kids to this movie! A great family movie for sure!
