I received a copy of The complete Idiot's Guide to The Best Family Destinations to review. Since we plan on taking a trip with our kids this summer, I thought this book would give me some tips on the best places to go with them.
Travel writer Kyle McCarthy, with the assistance of the one of the top family travel sites, FamilyTravelForum.com, takes readers through five U.S. regions, Canada, and Mexico, uncovering the top 150 destinations for family travelers.
•Categories include top cities, cultural sites, beaches, amusement parks, outdoor adventures, historical areas, mountain towns, and much more
•FamilyTravelForum.com is ranked second on Google and third on Bing for people searching "family travel"
After looking through the book, I thought that it does offer some great general ideas on the different places you can visit if you are looking for particular things to do with your kids, like visiting an amusement park or going to a cultural site. However, once you decide on a place you would like to take your kids to, I would recommend either doing additional research online or picking up a more detailed travel guide. There are places that sounded interesting but the writer offers so little information that I was not sure if the these places would really be a good fit for my family. Of course, I understand that since the guide covers major vacation sites in the US as well as Canada and Mexico, so it is not able to offer the type of details I would like. That's why I think it is a book that offers a good starting point for additional research before I decide on a family destination that would work for us.
