Souplantation Review & Giveaway -- ENDED

I have been going to Souplantation since I was in high school. It was one of my mother's favorite places to eat before she passed away. After DD started eating solid food, we ate there frequently when I discovered that it was the prefect place for her to try a variety of fruits and vegetables. My friends and I would take the kids out for playdates and stop by there for healthy lunches all the time. Recently, we received a few coupons to try out different things at Souplantation. We got a couple of meal passes as well as a coupon to try out a take home Cranberry Apple Cobbler.

Because we have been so busy over the holiday season, it was so nice to eat a healthy meal out at a great place like Souplantation. After having a nice meal of there (full of salad and soup that DD loves), we got to take a cranberry apple cobbler home. I did not realize that you can buy one to take home. It looked sooo good that we could not wait to try it.

We had some friends over for a movie night and I baked the cranberry apple cobbler for dessert after dinner. It smelled sooooooo good!

The kids had cookies while we ate the cranberry apple cobbler from Souplantation. It was honest to goodness the best cranberry apple cobbler we have ever had. Our friends were impressed by my cooking. Once I explained that the cobbler actually came from Souplantation, they were really surprised and all of them mentioned that they would definitely buy the cobbler themselves.

We love eating at Souplantation and if you haven't been to one yet, we highly recommend that you give it a try. You can find a location near you here: http://www.souplantation.com/locations/

Many thanks to Souplantation. The company has generously offered 2 meal passes as giveaway prizes to one of my lucky readers (US residents only please).

Pillsbury Simply... Biscuits & Breads Review

While I typically make my own bread at home, with the pregnancy (being exhausted all of the time) and busy with the holiday events, I began to look for biscuits & breads that have the same homemade quality to them in the stores. I was contacted by Pillsbury to try out their Simply... Biscuits & Breads and of course my family could not wait.
The new biscuits and bread pair well with soups and stews, especially during the winter months when everyone craves comfort food. Pillsbury simply…Biscuits & Bread are the perfect solution for moms who are busier than ever, but still want to nurture those they love with warm, homemade meals they can feel good about serving. Simply…Biscuits & Bread are made with wholesome ingredients, including flour, buttermilk and sugar. They also contain zero grams of trans fat, no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial colors or flavors
In addition to the biscuits & breads, we also receive a bread basket, a cutting board, a spread knife and raw honey -- all to go with the yummy delicious biscuits & breads.
After giving the biscuits & breads a try, I must say that Pillsbury has done it again. I have always like Pillsbury products and my family really enjoyed the new products we got to try. The biscuits & breads definitely have that yummy homemade, just came out of the oven, mommy slave away in the kitchen for hours taste to them. My 4 year old daughter, being a huge fan of all sorts of baked goods, especially loved them with a touch of butter and raw honey. I ended up serving the biscuits & breads with meatball spaghetti on one night and chicken soup the next night. They were great additions to the main dishes I made.

Next time you visit your local supermarket, be sure to check out if it carries the Pillsbury Simply... Biscuits & Breads. They are yummy!

Soy Candles by Phebes Review & Giveaway -- ENDED

I notice that I use more candles in the winter than any other time of the year. Since it has been raining like crazy in the past month, I have been using the soy candles I received from Soy Candles by Phebes a lot. There is nothing like lighting up a candle to bring a pleasant scent into the house on a raining day. Actually, just recently, we lost power to the house for a couple of hours one night, and we used the candle to help light up the bathroom while we showed. So, in addition to the nice scent, the candle came in very handy when the power went out.

I received 2 different candles scents to review. I thought that the scents were amazing. I would allow the candle to burn for a couple of hours in the morning and the lovely scent would fill up the entire house for most of the day.

I only use soy candles because they are eco-friendly and they last longer too. Although soy candles do cost more, but I feel that they are worth the price you pay. To buy your own soy candles, please visit Soy Candles by Phebes.

Many thanks to Soy Candles by Phebes. The company has generously offered 2 candles as giveaway prizes to one of my lucky readers (US residents only please).

What Santa Forgot to Bring Me .....

In early December, we took DD to see Santa at our local mall. DD asked Santa to bring her a Sparkle Barbie. Personally, I am not a fan of barbies. I can write a long list of the reasons why Barbies are not allowed in our house. To put it simply, I think it creates unrealistic images for young girls that affects their views of themselves once they are grown. Of course, I understand we are bombarded by unrealistic images of women every where and every day of our lives. However, I feel that the less I expose my daughter to that the better it is. Anyhow, so I made the decision to not buy her the Sparkle Barbie. No 4 year old need a doll with a dress so short that it barely covers her behind, and don't get me started on the 5-inch high heels these dolls are wearing....

DD's friends Avery and Whitney both have these dolls, and DD wanted them desperately. She asked for them everyday (several times a day) for the past month. When Christmas came and she did not get one, she was beyond disappointed with Santa. She kept on telling us that Santa forgot to bring her the dolls she asked for.

Christmas came and went, but she was still asking for them. I was amazed by the how badly she wanted these dolls and how persistent she was -- she began to ask if she could have them for her birthday. So... today... we gave in. We took her to Toys R Us and brought her the Sparkle Barbie dolls she wanted.

I clearly lost this battle. I did not want to disappoint my little girl. I am sure at her age she will not understand why I was so reluctant to get her the dolls. In the end, I figure that at 4 years old, I should pick other battles to fight -- like getting her to eat her vegetables and clean up her messes every night before she goes to bed. Maybe I was being too hard on her, after all, she is a pretty good kid. She listens well. Unlike some kids (who DD is no longer permitted to play with because I thought they were bad influences), she does not spit on people (yes, someone's 3 year old girl actually does that), she does not hit other kids and she certainly does not yell, scream or get out of control.

I don't know if I made a mistake buying her the dolls. Or, maybe in the scheme of things, buying the dolls was not a big deal at all. I guess I will not know for sometime. Being a parent is not easy and I think being a good one is even harder. Like everyone else, I am just trying to do the best I can. I am sure there will be other more important battles I will need to fight as she grows up.....

Hearth Song Review & 50 Dollars Gift Card Giveaway -- ENDED

Was there something on your child's Christmas wish list that he/she did not get this year? It's not too late to pick up something that Santa forgot from Hearth Song. DD loves toys and she can't have enough of them. We usually buy her educational toys like puzzles and books for Christmas. This year, she did end up getting lots of toys from her aunt and grandparents. Although DD is a girly girl, she loves all things dinosaurs and robots. Over the years, she has gotten a lot of dinosaurs and robots stuff, but she still does not have a tea set. As such, when we were given the chance to review one of the Hearth Song products, we picked the Flower Fairy Tea Set.

This porcelain tea set features a beautiful collection of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies®. Each piece is hand-finished in 24k gold and-like all Reutter tea services-is food and dishwasher safe.

So it's elegant, yet very practical.

Regular set includes two 3-3/4" plates, two 1-1/2 oz. teacups and saucers, two stainless spoons, a 3-1/4" tall teapot, sugar bowl and creamer, plus lace napkins and a lace doily.

All neatly packed into a custom fabric-sided hatbox container.

For ages 5 and up.

DD loves her very first tea set. She loves sitting down to have little tea parties with her stuffed animals. The tea set came in a beautiful box for easy storage when DD is done hosting her tea parties. The details on the tea set is amazing, this adorable tea set really make DD feel like the princess she is. I also love this tea set, I hope that DD will be able to use this tea set for pretend play for many years to come.

Hearth Song packaged the tea set very well and all of the pieces arrived nicely and safely. We were impressed by the shipping time as well as the packaging. To buy your little princess a tea set like the one that DD received to review or to check out other fun toys Hearth Song offers on its website, please visit its online store.

Many thanks to Hearth Song. The company has generously offered a $50 gift card as a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers.

Kids ‘N’ Caboodle Baby Shoes Review & Giveaway -- ENDED

DD wore a lot of soft leather shoes when she was learning how to walk. Now that we have a new baby on the way, we are excited to shop and buy things for the newest member to our family. Kids ‘N’ Caboodle sent us a pair of personalized softsoul leather shoes for the new baby and we were impressed by how well made they were.

The shoes we received were customized by the colors we selected and personalized with the new baby's name on it. We thought the workmanship was amazing. The shoes were packaged well and arrived to our home very quickly. Overall, we were very happy with the new shoes, we can't wait for our new baby to wear these adorable shoes.

We thought that these shoes would make great baby shower gifts as well as gifts for new babies. To order a pair, please visit the Kids ‘N’ Caboodle website to make your purchase.

Creamy Chicken Rice Recipe

Since I got several inquires about the dish I made with for my Zojirushi $140 Micom Rice Cooker & Warmer Giveaway, I thought I would post my recipe here. This was a recipe created entirely by me. My family enjoys eating the meal and my daughter will basically eat whatever vegetables I use in the dish. It is easy and cheap to make, also fairly healthy too. You can adjust the recipe to what you have around the house, but the recipe below is how I make it for my family.

Ingredients: 2 chicken breasts, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, 2 cups of frozen vegetables (whatever you have is fine -- usually I use frozen peas, carrots and corn), milk, dried basil, dried Italian seasoning.

* While my rice is cooking in the rice cooker, I cut the chicken breasts into bite sizes.

* Brown the chicken breasts in a well oiled pan. While your chicken is being cooked, warm up 2 cups of frozen vegetable in the microwave for 3 minutes.

* After browning the chicken for a few minutes, open & pour 1 can of cream of mushroom soup (I sometimes use 1 can of cream of chicken soup instead). And then add 1 can size of milk (you can use whatever milk you have in the house-- I use 2% milk because that's what we have at home).

* Add vegetable to your chicken/soup stock in the pan. Bring to boil and then turn the heat down to medium low to simmer.

* Cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Then add 1 teaspoon of dried basil and 1 teaspoon of dried Italian seasoning. Salt to taste and then serve over a bed of rice.

This recipe along with 3 cups of cooked rice is enough to my husband, myself and my daughter for dinner and then for my husband and my daughter to pack lunches the next day.

ChicoBag Review & Giveaway -- ENDED

I am a huge fan of reusable bags. Not only that I use them myself, I love giving them as gifts. I have a set of reusable bags for grocery shopping in my car and I always carry at least one reusable bag in my purse just in case I need one when I am out. I have tried a lot of reusable bags and I have pretty much figure out what I do and do not like. I do not like the tote bag style reusable bags. Although many of them have cute prints on them, I don't like that they take up so much space (because typically you can only fold them in half). I also notice that on some of them, the prints do rub off after only a few uses. I have heard of ChicoBag in the past but I just recently had the pleasure of trying them out, and I must to admit that I REALLY like the bags I got to review.

I received a couple of the Vita Vintage collection bags to review. I love that these bags come in fun prints that's part of the fabric design so that you can't have to worry about the print fading or coming off. In each of the ChicoBag, there is a little pocket on the inside, when you don't need to use your bag, all you have to do is stuff the bag into the little pocket and then you have the reusable bag in a little pouch (about the size of my fist and I have a pretty small hand). The fact that you can store the bag in a little pouch makes transporting them very easy. I can easily store a couple of them in my purse. Even though these bags are super light weight, each bag can hold up to 40 lbs. Considering that a gallon of milk is 7 lbs, that means each bag can hold up to 5 gallons of milk and some more stuff. Amazing right?!

Each one of the Vita bags retails for $12 dollars. They are durable, easy to store, transport and use. Most importantly, they are great as eco-friendly reusable bags that you can use everyday. To buy your own ChicoBag, please visit its website to make your purchase.

Many thanks to ChicoBag. The company has generously offered 2 vita bags as giveaway prizes to one of my lucky readers (US residents only please).

Talkatoo Review & Giveaway -- ENDED

DD is a girly girl who loves to wear jewelry. Although she is only 4 years old, she already has a nice collection of necklaces and bracelets. Recently, she added another piece to her collection. The necklace she received was not just any other plain necklace, it was one that can record and share message from Talkatoo.

Although you can get this recording device in either a keychain or necklace, DD chose the necklace to review. My husband and I tested it out before showing it how to record her own message on the necklace. The necklace can record up to 30 seconds of message. We were surprised by how long 30 seconds lasted. Once we showed our daughter how to use it, she was playing with it and recording her own silly messages on it in no time. Sometimes we would leave her little messages on her necklace just for fun and she would do the same for us too.

Talkatoo is definitely a cute necklace that functions as a fun toy too. To buy one for your child, please visit the Talkatoo website.

Many thanks to Talkatoo. The company has generously offered 1 product as a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers (US residents only please).

Christmas Eve & Christmas Day

On Christmas Eve, we drove to my in laws' house for our annual Christmas Eve get together. My husband's family has the tradition of opening Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve after a light dinner so we did just that.

While I was at the mall picking up last minute Christmas gifts a couple of days ago, I picked up a chocolate gingerbread man for DD at Godiva as a special treat for her on Christmas Eve. DD was beyond excited.
There went the head of $6 chocolate gingerbread man. I am glad that DD thoroughly enjoyed it.
After a light dinner, we opened up Christmas gifts. As you can see, she was surrounded by them.
She definitely got spoiled this year.
Last year she opened up a couple of gifts, got distracted by the gifts she already opened and I ended up opening most of her gifts for her. We did not have that problem this year, lol. Without a doubt, she has become an expert at opening gifts.
In addition to tons of toys, she also got a Sony Portable DVD player from her grandparents and a $100 gift card to Toys R Us from her aunt. What a lucky girl!
On Christmas day, we did our annual Christmas meal at my sister in law's house.
DD entertaining herself with the coloring books she got for Christmas from her aunt.
We had a yummy lunch (roasted pork, green beans, baked potatoes, green salad and dinner rolls). After a wonderful lunch, we had cheese cake and red velvet cake for dessert.
DD hanging out at her aunt's house.
We had a wonderful Christmas. I hope all of you did as well!
