I had been checking out and looking at double strollers when I was offering the Combi Twin Sport to review. I have tried some double strollers and had my share of problems with them and so I was looking forward to seeing how the Combi Twin Sport might be different from the other double strollers I have tried.
After trying the Twin Sport, here's some fantastic features I love about it!If you have 2 kids close in age (toddler and an infant or 2 infants), you are probably looking for a double stroller yourself. Ok, imagine this, if you have one of those strollers where one child is in the back and the other sits in the front, you are very likely to have one or both of them complaining about who gets to sit in the front. Dealing with multiple kids is hard enough, it sure is no fun to have to argue and try to negotiate the seating arrangement every time you pull out a stroller. Having a double stroller with side by side seating will avoid any potential issues you have in that area.
What is amazing is about this double stroller is how compact is it. This is the only double stroller I have tried that is compact enough to fit in the trunk of a sedan. I know that some moms with multiple kids have minivans, so space is not necessary an issue. But in a home like ours, even though there is space in my minivan, there is isn't enough space in the trunk of DH's car for a double stroller. This means that we would always have to drive my car -- which is a hassle sometimes, especially if we are going different places. If you drive a sedan, then this is the stroller for you. You will not have to worry that the stroller will not fit in the trunk of your car.
When I said this double stroller is compact, I mean it! This double stroller fits in doorways! I must admit that when I took the stroller to the mall and there were doorways I was not sure I was going to be able to go through. All I could think about was how embarrassing it's going to be when I am get stuck in a doorway at a store in a busy mall with lots of foot traffic. LOL! Lucky for me, it did not happen. I was able to push the stroller in and out of the stores (and restrooms) without any problems at all.
You might be concerned that a stroller that's this compact might not be comfortable for your kids. After trying the stroller, I have to say that this is one of my favorite part of about the stroller. The stroller is compact, but it is designed to make sure that your kids fit in it comfortably. Combi did not sacrifice your kids' comfort to make this stroller compact. The seats are actually roomy.
The stroller does come with the standard features such as 5-point harness system and storage basket. It also comes with a removable guardrail with child cup/snack holders. The basket is decent in size, but is not as large as the baskets in full size strollers (which makes sense because this is a compact double stroller after all). If you a mom who wants to load everything but the kitchen sink in the stroller for your outings, this is not the stroller for you. If you are a mom who wants light weight strollers that move smoothly without carrying a tons of stuff, the this is the stroller for you. While some parents do not have a special preferences about guardrails I personally think it is really helpful. There were times when we are at amusement parks when DD was constantly getting in and out of the stroller. A couple of years ago, she was in a stroller without a guardrail and she was so excited about a ride that she jumped out of the stroller while it was still in motion. She was not hurt at all, but both of us got quite a scare. Of course, now that DD is older, she is smarter and she does not do things like that anymore. But with a younger toddler, I feel that it is better safe than sorry, so I do think that having a guardrail is a great feature to have.
The twin sport stroller is compatible with SHUTTLE 33 infant car seat. The car seat snaps into the stroller very nicely and securely. With the shuttle 33, transporting your infant to the stroller is a breeze. Just lift the carseat from its base in your car and snap it into the stroller-- it is that easy. I am a fan of travel systems, so I was happy to see that combi has a carseat that allows parents to create a travel system with a double stroller. One thing to keep in mind though, because this is a compact stroller, you can only use 1 carseat with it. (There will be a separate and more in depth review of the shuttle 33 carseat in the near future, so please do check back for that).
Now, if you have kids who create huge messes in their strollers like mine do, then you will be happy to learn that cleaning up is easy too. Finding old icky gold fish and spilled milk in the stroller? Well, those things are hard to avoid when you have kids. That is why it is so nice to have the removable and washable seat cushions on the twin sport stroller. I found the seat cushions to be fairy easy to remove. Upon removal, I just wash them in the washer and let them air dry over night.
My favorite feature of the stroller though... drum roll please! The 3-Second Fold! If you haven't seen it before or haven't heard of it before, head on over to your nearest Babies R Us store to try it out in person. It is amazing! It did take me a couple of trial and error to get a hang of it, but once I figured out how to fold the stroller up properly, I really was able to fold it up in 3 seconds. As I mentioned before, the stroller folds up to a very compact size. As you can see in this photo, the 2 seats are actually folded inward, so that they face each other completely.
The only downside to this stroller is that it does not have a parent tray so there is no cup holder. However, this problem was easily resolved by picking up a cup holder at Babies R Us for less than $10. At my local Babies R Us, it was only a couple of aisles down from where strollers were displayed. I also noticed that I could hang my diaper bag easily over the stroller push bar, so I could just reach down into my diaper bag to find the things I need -- thus rendering a parent tray obsolete.
This great stroller weights less than 23 lbs but can hold up to 45 lbs per seat. Once it is folded, it is so lightweight and compact that even I (at 5'4) can toss it over my shoulder using its carry strap to transport it. If you are looking for a light double stroller I would definitely recommend checking out the Combi Twin Sport.
