Kemby Sidekick Baby Bag Baby Carrier Review & Giveaway (ENDED)

Winning comment is #174!

I remember when my mommy friends would joke about the stuff I carried in my diaper bag. "Are you carrying a house in there?" "What do you not have?" "Wow, you are prepared for everything. You are probably ready even in the event of an earthquake or a major storm." Yes, I was the kind of mom who carried everything I could possibly stuffed in my diaper bag (why do you think I have a bad back? lol). Now, imagine me with my giant diaper bag and the stuff in it. A changing pad, couple of slippy cups, diapers, baby wipes, baby food, change of clothes for the baby, a nursing cover, a baby carrier, my wallet, car keys... the list goes on and on.

When I learned about Kemby Sidekick 2 in 1 bag, I could not wait to try it. It seems like the kind of product that would be great for a mom who carries too much stuff (yes, that would be me).

The Kemby Sidekick is the only dual function baby bag and child carrier. The bag comes in 3 different colors and the interior linings are the same for all 3 different colors. Personally, I really like the Kemby bag as a diaper bag. I think the design is modern and has the urban fun loving mama look to it. It has 2 pockets on the outside for bottles or slippy cups. Under the large flap (that is used as the back panel for the baby carrier), there is a zipper pocket to store essentials you want easy access to. On the inside, there is a small pocket for your cell phone and another zipper pocket for storage. The baby bag is large enough for a few diapers and a pack of baby wipes. On the back of the bag, there is a storage space for the matching changing pad. Last but not least, there is also another zipper pocket on the bottom of the bag. This is where I keep my wallet. I definitely do not recommend storing any sort of food there -- unless you wanted it to crushed ;). The bottom zipper pocket is actually designed to store diapers and baby wipes so that they don't get all bunched up, although I prefer to store my wallet there, you might want to use it for its true purpose.

The baby carrier part is actually fairly easy to use. It only took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to adjust the straps and convert the top of the bag into the back panel for the baby carrier. The baby carrier can only hold a child up to 35 lbs and should not be use for infants who do not have enough neck and head support.

While I do love the 2 in 1 feature of Kemby Sidekick, I would not recommend getting rid of your traditional baby carrier. I think the Sidekick is best use for young toddlers who is learning how to walk or walking but can't walk too long on his/her own yet. This is the perfect bag for quick trips to the stores or when you know that you will not be carrying your child the entire time you are out. I remembered when DD was younger and she got tired of walking very quickly but she was still very much interested in walking on her own when she could. You know-- when your child is just on the borderline of being independent. It was such a pain to carry a baby carrier when I knew that she was only going to be in it for 10 minutes of out each hour. With a bag like Kemby, you will no longer have to carry a baby carrier every time you leave the house.

I think it is pretty amazing that you can convert the top of Kemby Sidekick into a baby carrier. I think the design is very innovate. I also think it is pretty awesome that while your child is in the baby carrier, the baby bag is still a baby bag. Converting the top does not mean that you will no longer have access to the baby bag anymore. How cool is that!

Would I buy this bag? Yes, I would. Although I would not get rid of my beloved baby carrier, I would definitely use this bag with toddlers and I think the design is interesting and really can save you a lot of trouble.

To buy your own Kemby Sidekick, please go to its website to make your purchase.

Many thanks to Julia of Kemby. She has generously offered 1 Kemby Sidekick as a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers. This giveaway contest is open to US residents only please. The retail value of the Kemby Sidekick is $165.00

Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny

Yesterday morning, we met up with some friends for an Easter Egg Hunt. It was raining a bit in the morning and DD was so afraid that playdate would get canceled. Luckily, even though it was a cloudy day, the rain stopped and DD got to have some fun. All of the moms brought some plastic eggs with toys, candy and stickers in them. We placed them all over the park for the kids.
At 4 years old, DD is an expert at egg hunting.
For someone who really wanted to collect as many eggs as possible, she was picky. Every time she picked up an egg, she made sure there was no dirt or ants on it. If an egg looked dirty to her, she would put it back on the ground, lol.
She could not get enough of them.
Every year, my friend Cristy's husband, Mike, dresses up as the Easter Bunny for the kids. This year was no exception.
More eggs!
How many eggs can a girl fit into her basket?
Her hair was a total mess here because this was taken after the Easter Egg Hunt.
DD was so proud of her basket full of plastic eggs.
All of the moms brought yummy food for everyone to snack on too.
DD enjoying her juice after all the hard work of collecting plastic eggs.
We want to say "Thank You" to Cristy and Norma for putting this super fun event together for the kids and moms. Also, thank you to Mike for dressing up as the Easter Bunny for the kids. We had a blast and we are really sorry that we were not able to stay long and catch up with everyone.

You see, we double booked. By "we," I actually mean that "I" double booked. While we were at the Easter Egg Hunt, my friend Debra called me and asked me where I was. That's when I learned that I got my dates messed up. I had made plans to go over to my friend Nancy's house for a playdate and I thought the playdate was on a Thursday. I felt really bad about double booking playdates, so we left the first playdate early in order to make sure we could attend the second one.

We got to Nancy's house an hour after we said we were going to be there-- oops! But we did managed to make it there after all :P. Nancy owns a bounce house and she had it up for the kids. I did not take many photos though because by the time we got to Nancy's house, I was feeling disorganized and exhausted.

I only got a few photos of DD making candy necklaces with Leila. As always, DD had a lot of fun at Nancy's house. She just LOVES Leila.

DD eating her candy necklace. Yummy!
Nancy, thank you for having us over for the fun playdate and lunch!

Making Pizza is FUN

I prefer making my own pizza dough because I like the taste better than store bought doughs. DH, on the other hand, does not care for pizza very much and when we eat pizza, it is almost always home made pizza. In any case, my friend Debra gave me some pizza dough last week and the dough actually smelled so good that I was looking forward to trying it. DD and I went to work last weekend and made our home made pizza with the Debra's pizza dough. I rolled out the dough and DD helped pour the EVOO on it.
What a great little helper!
She helped with the sauce too.
And of course, she also helped with the toppings.
DD enjoyed eating while she helped.
That's the face of a happy child who helped herself to some toppings.
Final product! I know it does not look very pretty, but it was delicious. We were all surprised by how yummy the dough was. Even DH, the non pizza lover, though the pizza was fantastic.
Debra, thank you for sharing your yummy pizza dough with us.

Tropical Traditions Organic Palm Shortening Review & Giveaway (ENDED)

The previous winner did not get back to me, a new winner has been selected. Comment #133 is the new winner!

My family has received a couple of Tropical Traditions products to review and we loved everything we tried so far, so we were excited to when we were asked to review the Organic Palm Shortening.

As you may recall, DD just had her 4th birthday party. I made her birthday cake as well as the cupcakes for all of her birthday party guests. I even made my own icing for the cake and the cupcakes. Tropical Traditions Organic Palm Shortening came just in time for me to make the icing with it. Because I have never used palm shortening before, I was not sure what to expect. After using it, I discovered the icing to be as tasty as ever and I love that it's actually better for us than the shortening I was using before. I also make my own pie crust (for chicken potpies and blueberry pies). Using the palm shortening, the pie crusts came out very flaky and yummy.

I have never been disappointed with any of the Tropical Tradition products we tried and I don't think you will either.

To buy your own Organic Palm Shortening, please go to Tropical Traditions to make your purchase.

Many thanks to Sandra of Tropical Traditions. She has generously offered 1 gallon of Organic Palm Shortening as a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers (US and Canada residents only please).

Britax Stroller Review & Giveaway (ENDED)

Winning comment is #658!

Who loves strollers? I do, I do! Ok, to say that I love strollers is an understatement. Recently, I received a Britax stroller in the mail to review and it could not have come at a better time!

We have a stroller for DD that she outgrew. Sometimes I get random moms asking me if I thought my daughter is too old to be in a stroller. Of course, my immediately reaction is," If I thought that, why would she be in a stroller?" I think because DD is so tall for her age, most people assume that she is much older. Personally, I don't mind that she wants be in a stroller. In any case, we had been using a stroller for her that she outgrew sometime ago, and so we were very excited to be given a chance to review the Britax Blink Stroller.

When the stroller came, I installed the wheels and snapped in the canopy and it was all ready to go. The whole process took less than 5 minutes!

After testing it out, I was immediately in love with several of the features on it that DD did not have on her last stroller.

DD's last stroller was a light weight stroller. While it worked well enough, it did not have the large canopy that the Britax stroller has. The Britax stroller canopy is enough to block the sun out of DD's eyes and face. With summer just around the corner, I am very glad that we will be prepared when it comes protecting DD's sensitive skin. The back of the canopy has a large zipper pocket for things like your car key, cell phone and wallet. I also like the peek a boo window on the canopy. DD loves it too because she says that it's like a moon roof on a car, lol.

Although the Britax stroller is slightly heavier than the last stroller DD had, I found it to be much more sturdy. Once the stroller is unfolded and pushed around, I could really tell the differences between her new stroller and the old stroller. The Britax stroller is definitely better in quality.

I really like the break system on the Britax stroller we received. I like that when you push down on break on either side of the back wheels, the whole stroller is locked. With DD's old stroller, the back wheels came with 2 separate locking devices, so you would actually need to put the breaks on both wheels.

I love the way you can release and fold down the Britax stroller. I know this might sound weird, but I have had problems with the release system on most of the strollers we owned. Typically, to fold and store a stroller, you either have to use the top of your foot to push up a lever to release the stroller and then you fold it down; or on strollers with very poorly designed mechanisms, you need to kneel down or bend down and use your hand to release the stroller and fold it forward. Since I have a bad back, kneeling down or bending down to fold my stroller is not appealing to me at all. With the Britax stroller, there is a carry strap hooked onto the releasing mechanism. To release the stroller, all I have to do is pull the strap upwards and then use my foot to push down on a lever to release the secondary locking system and the stroller can be folded down. I know it mights sound more complicated, but trust me when I say it is actually easier and safer too. (Safer because there is no danger of the stroller folding down on your child with the 2-part releasing mechanism).

As I have mentioned earlier, there is a carrying strap hooked on to the leasing mechanism. Besides using it to release the stroller, you can also, of course, use it as a carry strap. The Britax Blink Stroller folds down to a compact size and you can carry the stroller using the carrying strap. While most people would find this perfect for traveling (at airports, on trains or subways), I love it for when we visit Disneyland. We always park in the parking structure and have to take the tram to get to Disneyland park entrance. I love being able to fold up the stroller and carry it over my shoulder when we need to get on the tram. Of course, we are also looking forward to using this stroller when we go on our summer vacation. The stroller came with a nice storage/transportation bag, so we will be using it for sure.

Although the Britax stroller folds down to a compact size, don't let this fool you. The stroller holds DD, who is 43 inches tall with plenty of room to spare on the top -- between her head and the canopy. The stroller holds up to 55 lbs which means DD can actually use this stroller for at least another year or two. A child must be 6 months or older to use this stroller, but once your child is old enough to use it, you can use this stroller for many years.

Another feature I think is great about this compact stroller is the storage basket. I owned and tried many compact strollers before and most of them have little to no storage space. As a matter of fact, with DD's last compact stroller, every time I wanted to put something away in the storage basket or get something out, I had ask DD to get off her stroller so I can access the basket. It was such a pain that I basically stopped using it completely. With the Britax Blink stroller, I am able to access the basket and there is plenty of storage space.

Last but not least, the stroller has layback recline with adjustable leg rest. So DD is now able to sleep in her stroller if she gets tired. How cool is that? I never thought that we would be able to find a stroller with a feature like this for a child as tall as DD.

Are you impressed yet? To buy your own Britax Blink Stroller, please go to the store locator to find a store near you. 2009 Blink models are now available for just $99 until supplies run out and 2010 models arrive.

Many thanks to Kelli of Britax. She has generously offer 1 Britax Blink Stroller (the retail value is $149.99) as a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers. US residents only please.

Nature's Gate Review & Giveaway (ENDED)

Winning comment is #43!

I have used a lot of organic and natural beauty and skin care products before. While most of the time I do love the products, I sometimes do think that they are a bit too pricey. When I was given the chance to review Nature's Gate products, I really looked forward seeing if their more reasonable prices affect the quality of their products.

After trying 3 products from Nature's Gate, I have to say that the company has made a true believer out of me. I will definitely be shopping there in the future. The first product we received to review was the fragrance-free lotion for sensitive skin. This lotion is exactly what I have been looking for. Not only that it worked perfectly on DD's sensitive skin (as you may recall she has skin issues and has been seeing a specialist for the past 3 years), I love that a 18oz bottle is only $7.99.

The second product we received to review was the Persimmon & Rose Geranium Liquid Soap. I can't even begin to tell you how great it smells. I love it so much that I want one for every bathroom in my house.

The last product I received to review was the Mandarin Orange & Patchouli Deodorant Stick. It was another great product that worked wonderfully.

If you are looking for certified organic products that work great and are very reasonably priced too, please go to Nature's Gate to make your purchase.

Many thanks to Justin of Nature's Gate. He has generously offered a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers (US residents only).

amykathryn bag Review & Giveaway (ENDED)

Winning comment is #204!

Hello, my name is Jen and I can't stop buying purses. Ok, you probably already know this about me, but did you know that I love my new bag from amykathryn?

I received the Hyacinth bag to review-- just in time for Spring! I love how unique it looks and the colors totally brightens my day.

The bag is hip and chic and great for spring and summer time. But, more importantly amykathryn prides itself on its eco-conscious choices of exquisite materials. Their signature look is created by mixing custom printed fabric and animal-friendly faux leather. The bag is so soft that I would have never guessed it is animal-friendly faux leather.

You don't have to sacrifice fashion for being eco-friendly at amykathryn. The company has a variety of beautiful bags adored by celebrities like Karina Smirnoff and Bridget Marquardt. You can buy one of these bags at the amykathryn online store.

Many thanks to Amy at amykathryn. She has generously offered a bag as a giveaway prize to one of my lucky readers. The winner will get to pick which bag she would like to win. US residents only please.

Kokopax samantha diaper tote Review

Kokopax just announced the debut of two new carriers along with their new Samantha Diaper tote, and I was lucky enough to receive a diaper tote to review.

I simply love how large the Kokopax tote is. The diaper tote comes with a matching changing pad and has plenty of pockets on the inside for diapers, baby wipes as well as bottles. There is also one large zippered pocket which I am using to store my wallet. Another reason why I think this is a great bag is because the bag is so light. I don't like bags that are already heavy before you put anything in it, and you know that with a baby you have to carry A LOT of stuff. There is so much space inside of the Kokopax tote bag that you will definitely be able to carry everything your baby needs and more.

The inside of the bag is lined with a super cute monkey print fabric. I love this diaper tote bag so much that I am sure I will be using it for years to come.

A while back, I also review the Kokopax classic carrier and I talked how great it is for trips to the zoo and hiking. The company also offers the City Carrier for everyday use like shopping trips to the stores, cooking at home or walks around the park.

While you are at the Kokopax store, don't forget to check out its new eco friendly line of eco-classic carrier too! To receive 10% off any order, please enter spr2010 upon check out.
