I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas with your friends and family!
Last Saturday I decided to make some Christmas ornaments with DD. This is a fun and inexpensive way to add to your collection of handmade crafts. These are fairly simple and will make a great keepsake.
This is the recipe I used:
To start you need:
2 cups of flour
2/3 cup salt
3/4 cup of water
Combine flour and salt in large bowl. Slowly stir in water until it forms a ball. Turn out on to a lightly floured surface and knead for 2-3mins.
Then roll out and cut shapes with cookie cutters.
Don't forget to punch holes for ribbon (to hang)
Bake for 30 mins at 300*F...Cool then paint.
When I made these with DD, I did make some minor changes. First of all, I did not have any white flour, so I ended up using my whole wheat flour (the color actually turned out prefect for ginger bread man ornaments). Also, because DD's paints are still all packed away in boxes, to give the ornaments some colors, after kneading them, I divided the dough into 3 parts. I added food coloring to them so that they would not all be in the same color.

Just like making cookies
Make sure you make big holes because I noticed that they got smaller after I baked them.
I wrote 2010 on some of the ornaments before putting them in the oven.
The next morning DD got to decorate the ornaments. I gave her a bunch of color markers, glue, rhinestones, and beads to use.
Because our house is still under construction and we had been sick with flu for weeks, we did not have the time to pick up a real Christmas tree this year. Luckily we still have our little fake Christmas tree that my husband bought for me as a gift back when we bought our first condo many years ago.
This is one of the ornaments we made using the salt dough recipe -- the pale green Micky Mouse ornament in the center of the photo.
Here's another one.
Last weekend, we had a small Christmas party for our friends. I don't have many photos because I was too busy having fun with them and I totally forgot to take pictures --oops. Here's a photo of DD with Meimei decorating their Christmas ornaments.
