Last week I told you all about how fantastic The Combi Twin Sport Stroller is (you can read my review here). I also told you that you can create a travel system using the Twin Sport Stroller with the Shuttle 33. Today, I am excited to provide my readers a more comprehensive review of the infant car seat.
Weighting only a little over 9 lbs (without the base), Shuttle 33 is the ideal car seat for transporting your infant around. It is light enough so that even with a baby in it, I don't feel like it's too heavy for me to carry. It features a comfortable handle bar so that you can carry your child around if you choose not to use the stroller. Like most parents, for short trips such as going from the car to a restaurant, we would not bother with a stroller. Instead, we would just lift the car seat from its base and we're good to go.
The car seat has a 5-point harness with padding -- which is a must have feature for all car seats. It also has an adjustable canopy. The canopy is really useful in blocking the sun from the baby's eyes and face. When you use the Shuttle 33 car seat with the Twin Sport Stroller, you can open the canopy all of the way on both the car seat and the stroller to create a nice coverage to minimize the sun exposure on your baby. Furthermore, if you are one of the parents who do not like random strangers touching your baby, then I also recommend covering up your baby with the canopies too. Infants are so delicate, I am just not comfortable with people touching the baby with their germy hands.
Of course, I am sure mothers are wondering how easy the car seat is to clean. Do not worry, Shuttle 33 has removable and washable fabric. When your baby spits and has little throw ups ( all of them do that, it's all a part of being a baby), you can remove the cover to clean it.
While the Combi Shuttle 33 infant car seat might look like a lot of other infant car seats on the market, it has a feature that I absolutely love: The Tru-Safe Anti-Rebound Bar (ARB)! When I brought our first car seat a little over 4 years ago, companies did not make car seats with anti rebound bars. As such I was not familiar with this new technology until I received the Shuttle 33 car seat to review. The anti rebound bar (it's the bar that sits at the foot of the car seat) is an important safety feature that minimizing the rotation against the vehicle seat back in a frontal crash. In other words, in the event of an accident, the anti rebound bar is designed to prevent the car seat from buckling or flipping and hitting the vehicle's seat that the car seat is facing. Please keep in mind that the anti rebound bar is a part of the carseat and not the base. Some of you might be concerned that your baby might not like having the bar by their feet. Having tested this carseat out in my family, I can tell you that the baby got used to it very quickly.
In addition to the anti rebound bar, Shuttle 33 also features a Tru-Safe Side Impact Protection. The sculpted side wings and the engineered plastic called Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) are laced throughout the seat to provide the greatest level of overall protection, especially in the head area.
It is amazing how far car seats have come since we brought our first one over 4 years ago. Car seats such as the Combi Shuttle 33 not only provides comfort and ease of use, it also has a set of features to ensure the safety of your baby. We think that this car seat is great for infants and it is an investment worth making.
